COLOMBIA. 1776-SF 8 Escudos. Popayán mint. Carlos III (1759-1788). Restrepo M73.18. MS-61 (PCGS).
A stunning example of this famous date, exceptionally lustrous with bold reflectivity on both sides. Ideally centered with a broad ring of denticles on both sides, the strike is atypically sharp and well detailed. This date was notably absent from the Eliasberg Collection (from either Colombian mint), and the SF assayer is considered the scarcer of the two assayers working in Popayán this year. A stunning 8 Escudos, the only 1776-dated Mint State example of this denomination from either Colombian mint.
From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian and Ecuadorian Coins.
From Stack's, December 1980.
Estimate: $2000.00- $2500.00
