DENMARK. Oldenburg Tricentenary Medal Struck in Silver, 1749. Frederick V (1746-66). NGC MS-62.
Glaster-437A. Cuirassed and draped bust right, legend around; Reverse: Crowned monogram at center, radiant crowned globus cruciger above, crossed caduceus, cornucopiae and fasces below, four-line inscription in exergue. The king was also duke of Schleswig-Holstein and count of Oldenburg, and this medal was issued to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the founding of his house. An alcoholic and a womanizer, his ministers kept Denmark out of the wars of the time, for which he is fondly remembered. Well executed with a needle sharp strike giving definition to the minute details. Lovely old cabinet tone displaying a medium grey in the open fields with a blue sheen while the peripheries are an attractive slate with hues of red and gold. Beautiful design with great eye appeal sure to add depth to the next collection it enters. NGC MS-62.

Estimate: $1500.00- $2000.00
