GREAT BRITAIN. Imitative Penny, ND (ca. 899-924). Uncertain Viking Mint. Edward the Elder (899-924). NGC AU-55.
1.22 gms. cf.S-1078; cf.North-658; Skaare-unlisted; Galster-unlisted; Schive-unlisted. This specimen comes with an NGC photo certificate as we deemed it too fragile to install in a holder. Although the photo certificate references Spink 1078, as a Viking imitation, the moneyer "Heremod" is in retrograde. A similar example with a planchet crack realized 3,800 pounds(approximately $6,270) in a Spink auction November 26, 2009 Lot # 151. An interesting specimen that appears to be unpublished. Slight uneven strike with plenty of detail. Lovely old cabinet tone with attractive iridescent hues when tilted in the light. NGC AU-55.

Estimate: $3500.00- $5000.00
