Reverse: Inaccurate image of the pyramid; "OPENED BY C. BELZONI" above and "MARCH 2nd 1818" below. Belzoni, better known in Europe as a performer called the "Patagonian Sampson" for performing feats of strength on stage, tried his hand at archaeology and by chance found the entrance to the pyramid of King Chephren at Gizah, and was able to recover the artifacts from the King's burial chamber, many of which are now housed at the British Museum. VERY RARE in silver. This specimen boasts a mottled silver gray patina on reflective surfaces. PCGS SP-63 Secure holder.
