HONDURAS. Provisional 2 Reales, 1824/over rotated 4. Tegucigalpa Mint. NGC AU-55.
4.59 gms. KM-15. VERY RARE in this state of preservation with a fantastic provenance. Slab insert states that the last digit of the date is a "4 over 3" overdate. However, upon close inspection the last digit of the date appears to be "4 over rotated 4". Correspondence with famous and brilliant author Carlos M. Jara who has published several masterpieces on Latin American numismatics including "Central American Provisional and Provincial Mints 1822-1825" Santiago de Chile 2007 has confirmed the attribution of the "4 over rotated 4" variety. Since these were produced at a provisional mint with sub-par minting facilities and manufacturing processes it only makes sense to reuse and rework dies and punches when necessary. An interesting discovery sure to excite even the most advance collector of Honduras. Typical crude manufacture on a compact flan. Well struck with good details, light attractive tone. NGC AU-55.

From the Richard Stuart Collection.

Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
