RUSSIA. "Dassier" Ruble, 1757-CNB RI. Elizabeth I (1740-62). NGC EF-40.
C-19c.3; Bit-282; Dia-433; Uzd-893. RARE. Jacques Antonine Dassier came from a well known and respected Swiss family of medalist. He studied in Paris, Rome and London where in 1741 he became assistant engraver of the Royal Mint, a position he held until 1745. In 1756 when the Seven Years war was in full swing he made his way to St. Petersburg where he lived for three years. On his return home in 1759 he died in Copenhagen. Clearly the artistic approach taken when he engraved the dies for his 1757 rubles was one of finesse and years of study. Several planchet laminations on the obverse. Lightly toned with attractive multi-colored hues amongst the devices. NGC EF-40.
Estimate: $15000.00- $20000.00
