NOBEL" to left, Latin numerals representing his date of birth and death to right; Reverse: " INVENTAS VITAM JUVAT EXCOLUISSE PER ARTES" (And they who bettered life on earth by their newly found mastery) Aesculapius cup and serpent, wreath behind, "F. I." at either side of base of caduceus. Date on edge. In the spring, the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden (one of Europe's largest and most prestigious medical universities) convenes their Nobel Committee for Physiology or Medicine, where each member of the Committee receives a medal in silver.
