YEMEN. Gold Riyal (5 Lira - 4 Sovereigns), AH 1378 (1959). NGC MS-62.
Approximate weight of 30.22 gms. Fr-8; Y-G17.2. The gold strikings of Imam Ahmad issues were based on the Turkish Lira (7.2164 gms gold). The Gold Riyal was struck using the Ahmadi Riyal dies. Based on the approximate weight this piece is nominally equal to four sovereigns, but is missing the Arabic countermark "4" denoting it as such. Also, interesting to note is that this piece appears to be either double struck where the second strike was rotated or overstruck on an earlier example. There is not enough identifiable features of the host to give a definitive answer to this question. Well struck with evidence of the host coin visible. An attractive example sure to excite the specialist. NGC MS-62.

Estimate: $6000.00- $8000.00
