GERMANY. Cologne. Bronze Cologne Fish Protective Society Medal, ND (ca. 1880). NGC MS-64 BN.
42.5 mm. Obverse depicts fish and ships, inscribed on a banner: "FISCHS SCHUTZVEREIN / F. D. REGIERUNGS BEZIRK KOLN". The reverse with a waterdrop-filled Coat of Arms surrounded by the legend: "ANERKENNUNG HERVORRAGENDE LEISTUNGEN". Probably issued to promote an early environmental group that was trying to keep raw sewage from being dumped into lakes and rivers. In the late 1870's these groups were successful in both Cologne and Frankfurt. Choice mahogany bronze and as such very attractive. NGC MS-64 BN.
