GREAT BRITAIN. Set of Four Uniface Electrotypes of William Wyon's William IV/Adelaide Official Royal Mint Coronation Medal, 1831.
Eimer-1251. Very high quality electrotypes including one of the obverse featuring King William IV and three of the reverse showing Queen Consort Adelaide - and one of these is incuse instead of being in relief. The face of each piece is gilt and appears in full detail and in PROOF-LIKE condition, while the opposite side bears a crude retrograde image of the front. Electrotypes were usually produced from an actual coin or medal in pairs, which could be fastened together to produce an exact copy from any coin or medal. They were also made from wax impressions taken from unhardened dies to provide the artist, or perhaps the contractor of a medal, an accurate representation of the final product for final examination and approval before the dies were hardened. These pieces match up exactly to our example of the finished product, except that there is no period at the end of the obverse inscription. Perhaps this omission was noted and the period added to the die on the final product. Two show signs of being cleaned long ago now toned. Close personal inspection is advised and will reward the diligent bidder. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. Each with varying degrees of tone. Lustrous and attractive. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.

Estimate: $350.00- $500.00
