RUSSIA. Emperor Peter III Historical Silver Medal, Dated 1762 (ca. 1790). NGC MEDAL MS-61.
Dia-1661.1. Armored and mantled bust of Peter III facing right, his name and titles around; Reverse: Eight line inscription noting his accomplishments and providing his vital dates. Peter was Czar for only 6 months in 1762 before his controversial death - perhaps arranged by his wife who went on to rule as Catherine II (the Great). An original from a ca.1790 series of 65 portrait medals depicting Russian leaders, this one numbered 58 on the reverse. Minor marks in the fields subdued with beautiful tone displaying a plethora of hues when tilted and as such quite an attractive piece. NGC MEDAL MS-61.
