In exergue; "KANTONAL - SCHÜTZENFEST / BEIDER BASEL / - 1906 - /."; Reverse: Wounded Swiss soldier preparing to throw a rock at French Armagnac Knight Burkhard VII Münch, who was in charge of an advancing force charged with killing the hundreds of injured Swiss fighters. A lucky throw by the wounded soldier caught the advancing Knight through his open visor and killed him - this becoming a symbolic act of defiance to the hopelessly outnumbered Swiss. Matte pearl grey finish, darkening around the major design elements. NGC MEDAL MS-63.
