ISLAMIC, Commercial Weights. 'Abbasid Egypt. Circa 8th century or later. Glass Quarter Ratl Ring Weight. Large quadrate glass weight with trace of stamp at top and central hole for suspension. Overall dimensions: 41mm wide at base, tapering to 30mm at top; 41mm high; 31mm thick at base, tapering to 25mm at top. Weight: 94.80. Cf. Eldada, Glass 89; cf. Münz Zentrum XXXVII, lot 4217 (both refs for type). Intact, translucent blue and lapis hue, traces of iridescence and earthen deposits. Old collection number – No 175-80 – on one side.
