Nero AR Tetradrachm of Antioch, Seleucis and Pieria. Dated RY 10 and year 111 of the Caesarean Era = AD 63. NEPΩN KAIΣAP ΣEBAΣTOY, laureate, beardless bust right with archaic aegis around neck / ETOYΣ AIP • I, eagle standing right, with spread wings, on thunderbolt; palm branch and pellet in right field. McAlee 263; Prieur 87; RPC I 4186. 14.43g, 25mm, 11h.

Very Fine. Interesting transitional phase issue.

Bearing a portrait of Nero that is notably more similar to the earlier style (see previous lot), but bearing the new reverse type with the eagle facing right (see following lot), this attractive tetradrachm is a fine example of the transition between the two styles struck at Antioch.
