FRANCE. 5 Franc, AN XI (1802-03)-A. Paris Mint. NGC MS-64+.
KM-650.1; Gad-577; Maz-435. An exceptional survivor, bold and beautiful, with strong detail inside Napoleon's portrait and the reverse wreath that extends to the legends that display the full intended crispness in the lettering. Satiny in the fields, both sides hold a heavy saturation of patina, with magnified inspection revealing hues of gold, olive-green and blue that blend together harmoniously and impart a sublime appearance. Just about as fine as coinage from Napoleon's time as Premier Consul comes. Worthy of the finest cabinet.
