FRANCE. 5 Franc, 1806-A. Paris Mint. NGC MS-63.
KM-673.1; Gad-581; VG-1498. This issue marks the first since the abandonment of the Revolutionary calendar (AN dating) in a return to the traditional AD (Anno Domini) dating. Instantly catching the eye, this example showcases delightfully sharp detail throughout the design with strong reflective characteristics in the fields. Flares of iridescent patina cloak the surfaces and with every swirl of the coin beneath a light, appealing hues of blue, yellow, gold and mauve gratify the eye. Light handling, including a few very faint planchet adjustments across the cheek, determines the grade, although the appeal certainly surpasses that typically seen. All considered, worthy of a look...and maybe two. NGC MS-63.
