World Currency
(German Southwest Africa) Kassenschein 100 Mark 8.8.1914 Pick 5a. The very elusive highest denomination of the German Southwest Africa Kassenschein series. Only one set of notes were issued under this authority, and the only one considered "official." The notes of the Swakopmunder Buchhandlung were considered only small change token currency. These notes were issued due to World War I, and the difficulty of delivering enough money from Germany to its outpost in Africa. The majority of these notes, and undoubtedly most of the higher denominations, were redeemed once the territory was divided among the victors of World War I. The large size embossed eagle can still be seen. A historically important example. PMG Very Fine 20 Net, repaired, pinholes. HID08701242017
Estimate: 5000-7000 USD
