Australia Commonwealth of Australia £1 ND (1914-1915) Pick 1B R19F. Overprint on Australia A111a. A storied and always popular note. Like the Holey Dollar and their Dumps about half a century before this note, banknotes were also pressed into service when the circulating supplies dwindled. Unlike earlier overprinted notes issued from 1910 to 1914, which was due to the transfer of banknote issuing rights from private banks to the Commonwealth Bank, these notes of the English, Scottish and Australian Bank were pressed into service due to the lack of banknotes in the beginning of World War I. We fully believe this is the finest of approximately 40 known survivors. As such, it is also the lone finest example listed in the PMG population report. The stunning colors and condition made it a worthy addition to the Dauer book on Australian banknotes, page 120. PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45. From the Drs. Joanne and Edward Dauer Collection of Australian Banknotes HID08701242017
