British Coins, Edward I (1272-1307), groat, London, variety a (Fox 5), small crowned bust facing, flower at each side of hair within quatrefoil of three lines, flat crown with pellet ornaments, drapery of two wedges with rosette below, flowers in spandrels, rev. long cross, three pellets in each angle, wt. 6.4gms. The first groat of Edward I, this is a full coin, unusually free from the traces of gilding and mounting that is normal for these coins. An attractive example of this classic coin.
