Choice Extremely Fine. From The Mayflower Collection.Ex Triton II (1-2 December 1998), 703.The types on this coin are emblems of the quindecimviri, members of an ecclesiastical college whose chief duties consisted of the care of the Sibylline books and the celebration of both religious and secular games (including the games in honor of the god Apollo). The torque surrounding the tripod should be considered a punning allusion to the cognomen Torquatus.
