Jose I gold 6400 Reis 1770R Counterfeit with IH Counterstamp, toned XF, a light weight counterfeit with reversed D in the "DG" portion of the obverse legend, weight 11.01 grams. Similar to the piece we offered in our August, 2010 sale of regulated US gold coins. Rare and fascinating coinage intended for circulation in the British West Indies, but probably circulated in the Colonies as well.
