Republic Real 1838-MV Condition Census, KM17, MS64 NGC, standard legends. Produced by the second assayer for this year, Miguel Vergara, who produced very little in this his first year. Silvery-gray patina with full underlying mint brilliance, a superb example of this early coinage with exceptional eye appeal. Compared to all the earlier date examples of this type we have ever examined, the multitude of dots which comprise the foliage and rocks on the mountain side are very sharp and distinct. The condors and sunface, plus sunrays, are all extremely meticulously punched and sharp. The date digits seem three dimensional, especially if viewed from the rim. This amazing pair of one Real dated 1838 are both the finest of the respective issue we have traced and by far the highest quality for the type we have ever offered. Specialists will mentally correlate this special presentation to that of the specimen-quality Ecuadorian cuartilla of 1842, and the gem medio real of 1840 with error assayer WV, offered and sold by us in Chicago a year ago at deserved world record levels. Extremely rare in this elite quality; we have neither seen nor imagined any finer. From The Glenn Gilman. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $250 in VF, $450 in EF.

Estimate: 3000.00-4500.00 USD
