Charles I (1625-49) gold Crown ND, S-2716, N-2185, Eye mm (struck 1645-46), VF35 NGC, jumbled strike especially on reverse, the obverse legend mostly clear, irregularly shaped flan, the crude portrait actually quite distinct, old-gold color. These little gold issues, of 5 Shillings value, seem to have been widely used in the commercial world of the early 17th century, and later the majority of all the mintages were melted for gold needed to make the milled coinages. From The Marston Collection of British Coins.
