Cromwell Crown 1658/7, S-3226, MS64 PCGS, a very lovely and choice example of this classic, designed by Thomas Simon. Late die state, with advanced diebreak across the die bulge at the base of the bust's throat line. Luster is "hard" or reflective, vaguely prooflike, as opposed to the pebbly texture often seen on these coins. Strike is the usual sharply detailed impression. Surfaces are not perfect under the color but they are certainly exceptionally fine. Toning is a rich iridescent bluish gray mixing with amber gold and lilac mauve shades. All in all, this coin is probably within the top 10% of known examples of this wonderfully engraved issue. Rare so fine. From The Estate of John C. Hugon.
