William & Mary Halfcrown 1689, S-3434, 1st Busts, 1st reverse, MS64 Terner PCGS, Superb Choice UNC, boldly struck, magnificent dual portraits, the reverse crowned shield crisply detailed down to the tiniest features, the images perfectly centered, all highlighted by superbly rich deep golden gray patina having hues of iridescence. Caul and interior of crown frosted; no pearls. This is a famous piece last sold about a decade ago in the Dr Jacob Y. Terner Collection (so noted on the grading insert) and formerly part of the Terner Registry inventory on the Collectors Universe website. Terner purchased it via his advisor shortly after it appeared in a London auction in 1989, at which time the coin was exactly three centuries of age. It had been in a private collection in Great Britain for a full century before appearing in 1989. It was one of the finest and rarest silver coins in the largely gold Terner Collection. Terner owned only exceptional coins having excellent eye-appeal. However, as is true of most of the Terner coins, the grade assigned by PCGS was conservative: few "64s" can approach the impeccable quality of this truly wondrous halfcrown. From The Estate of John C. Hugon.

Estimate: 8000.00-10000.00 USD
