William III gold Elephant & Castle-hallmark 5 Guineas 1699, S-3455, 1st Bust, Undecimo edge, AU Details "repaired" NGC, sharply defined portrait and reverse royal shield but the fields have been tooled and finely scratched and then polished or otherwise worked on, clearly in an attempt to diminish the scratches -- and to a large measure it worked, because to the casual observer this coin has lots of appeal and seems lustrous. It might properly be called splendiferous. In any state of preservation, however, this remains a rare coin. From The Marston Collection of British Coins.
