George III Pattern Bank of England Wreath Dollar 1811, ESC-205, R3, silver, plain edge, PR62 NGC, nice even silvery gray toning, an excellent old-time piece. The intention of this pattern was a new coinage design for the Crown, at a new intrinsic value of 5 shillings and 6 Pence, reflecting the gyrating price of silver specie during this period of war. Napoleon was soon defeated, but the various patterns never became adopted coins, as they were replaced by "regal" crowns beginning in 1818 using Pistrucci's new St George reverse design and a less realistic but more energetic portrait of the aging king. Of the various "bank tokens" created during this era, this crown is among the largest and also most unusual as it depicts King George facing to the left, at variance with his other portrayals. This specimen is nicer than most encountered.

Estimate: 5000.00-6000.00 USD
