George III Pattern gold Third Guinea 1776, by Richard Yeo, WR-137 (R3), plain edge, PR63 Cameo Terner PCGS, brilliant reflective surfaces with light frosted contrast between the motifs and the mirrored fields. This curious pattern, featuring a lion passant crowned and standing upon a larger crown, exists bearing either of two dates, 1775 and 1776. Most of the 1775 pieces were struck on wretched blanks and are generally rough looking. The 1776 patterns are usually seen finer, but this specimen, formerly in the Terner Collection and so noted on the grading insert, is the sharpest example this cataloguer has seen and also has superior surfaces compared to most known examples. Of course the 1776 piece has a special appeal to American collectors as well. From The Estate of John C. Hugon.

Estimate: 2500.00-3000.00 USD
