George III gold Proof Guinea 1774, S-3728, WR-95 (rare), 4th Bust, plain edge, PR64 NGC, a few tiny contact marks are noted on the obverse field mainly, but this is a very choice specimen having a superb proof impression that produced a beautifully detailed portrait, clear of abrasions, the reverse just superb and showing the tiny die-crack below "M" to right of 74 in the date, as well as the larger die-flaw in the field touching the "T" of the legend at about 3 o'clock reverse. Most known examples of this proof issue possess these two minting flaws. This truly lovely coin is blessed with reflective surfaces and premium old-gold toning that is a bit more vibrant on the reverse than on the obverse. Struck to celebrate and preserve for posterity examples of the new, 4th Portrait Guinea, which was issued from 1774 through 1786.From The Estate of John C. Hugon.
