Romanus III Argyrus (1028-1034). AV histamenon nomisma (4.36 g). Christ Pantokrator enthroned facing, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels / Romanus standing facing and being crowned by the Virgin Mary. Cf. Sear 1819. Cf. DOC 1. Flan has been bent and straightened, with crease running diagonally through center. Of unusual style, possibly struck at a branch mint or a contemporary imitation. Very fine.
