Watch List notes:

Ceiba CAR 1848 Duet w/ Lion c/s, KM68 & KM72 (not KM72a). Nice Very Fine and cleaned Fine+ examples of the Medio and full Real dated 1848 with assayer JB. The medio has the usual FECUNDO, while the Real has FECUDO (sic) on this only die of this rarer date. Both show CREZCA (whereas 1831 pair show CRESCA) making it a subtype for specialists. More importantly, and not fully understood by KM, all of the 1848 Real are a DIFFERENT subtype than the 1849. The 1848 has the fineness as 10 Ds 20Gs (10/12 plus 20/24th's =0.9027 fine silver) instead of the 1849 indication of 9Ds (equals 9/12th's =0.750 fineness). (The common medio real does not indicate its fineness and is thus designated as being the same type as the 1847 & 1849 emissions.)Dana Roberts Collection and Study Group.
