Ceiba 25 Cntv 1864 Rare Pair, KM 106 (both). Y-11a. Both Very Fine or so, the second attractively toned and both well struck for this series. Significant for this first date of type and new sub-type, as mentioned in the prior lot, the value 25 Cs was dramatically increased in size (hence the Y-11a sub-category). There are probably about 10 examples known of this sub-type of this date. Interestingly, there are two dies extant, one featuring a small raised "S" after the "9 D" (9 Decimos which actually converts to 9/12 or 0.750 fineness) and the other withOUT the little "S". This inclusion or omission was noted by Gurdian as early as 1958 for the small 25 Cs 1864 type, but only recently did this Fred Mayer pair make us aware it occurred for both types that first year. One is very rare, in all likelihood, while the other should nonetheless be categorized as "Rare".
Estimate: 1000.00-1500.00 USD
