Azores Banco de Portugal 10 Mil Reis Ouro 30.1.1905 Pick 11 PMG Very Fine 25 Net, repaired, rust. While banknotes for Portugal's overseas colonies were issued mostly by the Banco Nacional Ultramarino, banknotes for Azores were issued by the Banco de Portugal, as the archipelago and Madeira were considered a part of Continental Portugal. However, Azores Reals were at a discount to the Portuguese counterpart, and notes originally printed for Portugal were overprinted to highlight this difference. Due to the unpopularity of this difference in rates, the currency was eventually unified in 1931. This series with overstamps was the second series of banknotes which circulated in Azores.
