Burundi Banque de la Republique 1000 Francs 1.2.1965 Pick 19 PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ. In 1966 King Mwami Mwambutsa IV was ousted by his son Prince Ntare V. Later that year the then Prime Minister, Micombero deposed the Prince, and successfully abolished the Monarchy. A military regime was then established. The consequence for already printed bank notes was that they had to be locally hand stamped with, "De La Republique" in French, and "Ya Republika" in Kirundi to hide any Kingdom related reminisces. A very rare and short-lived issuance. This handstamped series was issued for about 2 years only, and was withdrawn in 1968. It is almost unbelievable that this highest denomination survived at all, and let alone as the top PMG graded example. A chance not to be missed to own it. From the Minot Collection HID08701242017
