Reunion Banque de la Reunion 10 Centimes ND (1917) Pick 21 PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. World War I created coin shortages not only in continental Europe but also throughout the European powers' far flung colonial possessions. Strategic metals were redirected to the war effort and often could not be shipped without some danger of being lost to enemy action. Reunion, a French possession in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar, was no exception and was forced to resort to simple paper scrip notes in fractional denominations of 5 and 10 centimes in 1917. Each small note received an embossed stamp and an authorizing signature before being placed in circulation. About 50,000 of these diminutive notes were reportedly released. That this note survived in such nice condition is a minor miracle. A rare and historic World War I item. From the Feeling Good Collection HID08701242017
