GALATIA. Ancyra. Pseudo-autonomous issue. Hemiassarion (Bronze, 18 mm, 3.88 g, 7 h), time of Titus and Domitian as Caesars, 69-79. Draped bust of Mên set on crescent to right, wearing Phrygian cap. Rev. ΣEBAΣTH/NΩN / TEKTOΣA/ΓΩN in four lines. RPC I -. RPC II -. SNG Paris 2435. SNG von Aulock 6129. Rare. Beautiful earthen highlights. Flan fault on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.


The reverse legend translates as: '[coin of the] imperial Tektosagoi'. The Tektosagoi were one of the Celtic tribes that migrated to central Asia Minor in the 3rd century BC, an area which was consequently named after its Gaulish inhabitants.
