CHINA. Kiau Chau. 10 Pfennig Token, ND (ca. Early 20th Century). PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield.
Menzel-4287.1.2. The only certified example listed on either the NGC or PCGS population reports. Obverse: uniformed bust facing forward; reverse: P.H. in center, "WERT-MARKE 10 PFG." ("good for 10 pfennig") around. Made in Berlin as a token for the German colony of Kiau Chau, which fell to the Japanese in 1914. Nickel plated brass. Vastly superior to the example from the Dana Roberts collection, EF with missing plating and many handling marks, (Heritage sale 3020, Long Beach, September 2012, lot 26403 where is sold for $325 plus the buyers fee). Lustrous with only trivial marks consistent for the grade displaying areas of deep patina amongst the devices and the high points. An elusive type in high grade with a great look. Includes old collectors envelope with brief description.

Estimate: $400.00- $600.00
