Card Money; French Regime, Card Money, Issued at Quebec, 24 Livres, 1729. Marquis Beauharnois - CCCS VF20. Signed by Beauharnois and Hocquart. Good VF, with strong ink and clearly defined seals. Rare and nice for issue. In 1729 the governor Beauharnois, having received permission from the King of France, Louis XV, consented to the issue of card money which was a popular and a trusted currency readily exchangeable for silver coins, facilitating trade with mainland France. In 2016, a similar example sold at auction and brought over $32,000. Worth a premium bid.
