SICILY, Gela. Circa 480/75-475/70 BC. AR Tetradrachm (23.5mm, 17.14 g, 4h). Charioteer, holding kentron in left hand and reins in right, driving slow quadriga right; above, Nike flying right, crowning horses with open wreath held in both hands / Forepart of bearded man-headed bull (river god) right; retrograde C-E-Λ-AΣ along lower edge; all within shallow incuse circle. Jenkins, Gela, Group II, 104 (O32/R59); HGC 2, 338; SNG Copenhagen 251; Hermitage Sale II 252; de Luynes 940 and 944; Jameson 580 (all from the same dies). Toned, compact flan (typical for issue), peripheral striking flaw on obverse. VF.
