Signed by John Milton, Governor of Florida from 1861 to 1865. A vocal secessionist, he supported the Confederate cause so strongly that he claimed "death would be preferable to reunion with them [the Yankees]." On April 1, 1865, in the closing days of the Civil War, he committed suicide by gunshot to the head. PMG #1075685-006.
