From the Richard A. Jourdan Collection of Medieval European Coins, purchased from Charles H. Wolfe, III, 1999.

While the heavier Gros Tournois of St. Louis IX was finding its place in much of European trade, the petit gros came from local wool merchants use of the sterling when dealing with their English counterparts and the need for a larger denomination.
