JULIUS CAESAR. AR Denarius (3.98 gms), Rome Mint, P. Sepullius Macer, moneyer, 44 B.C. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
Cr-480/10; CRI-107a; Syd-1073. Lifetime issue. Obverse: CAESAR DICT PERPETVO, wreathed head right; Reverse: P SEPVLLIVS MACER, Venus standing left, with head lowered, holding victoriola and scepter set upon shield. An incredibly impressive and resounding example, this majestic piece is struck on one of the broadest flans for a denarius which this cataloger has ever seen. For a series which can be often plagued by off centering, bankers' marks, poor strikings, and bad metal quality, this illustrious specimen is free from all of those pitfalls. Handsomely toned and retaining some hints of remaining luster, this example should captivate all who view it and easily find itself as the new centerpiece of any fine Republican cabinet or collection focused upon famous individuals. Sold with its 1950 Coin Galleries bill of sale as well as its original photo tickets.

Ex: Coin Galleries (4/1959) for $72.10 (by private treaty).

Estimate: $15000.00- $20000.00
