EL SALVADOR. El Salvador - Mexico. 4 Reales, ND (1868). San Salvador Mint. PCGS AG-03 Gold Shield; Countermark: F Details.
KM-68 (plate coin); Jovel-pg. 247. Type V Countermark, arms of El Salvador within dentilated circular boarder. Issued by Decree of 28 September 1868. On an 1812 Mexico War for Independence Sombrerete de Vargas 4 Reales. EXTREMELY RARE host coin and denomination, probably UNIQUE. Countermark evenly applied with nice details on a crudely made host coin. An attractively toned example displaying smooth even dove grey patina highlighted with a slight iridescent sheen amongst the devices. A highly interesting host from this series certain to excite even the most advanced of collectors.

An unusual host coin from this countermark series where the other minor denominations are common and appear on the market with regular frequency. However, the denominations of 4 and 8 Reales should be considered of the highest rarity and should catch the attention of specialist.

From the Kyle Ponterio Collection.

Ex: Richard Stuart Collection.

KM plate coin.

Estimate: $1000.00- $2000.00
