PERU. National Constitutional Convention Gold Proclamation Medal, 1856. Republic. NGC AU Details--Removed from Jewelry.
29 mm. Fonrobert-9111. Issued for the National Constitutional Convention. Obverse: SANCIONADA POR LA CONVENCION NACIONAL DEL PERU, open book (representing the Constitution) within wreath; Reverse: PROMULGADA SOLEMNEMENTE EN 19 DE OCTUBRE DE 1856, coat-of-arms. Fully detailed with yellow surfaces, although cleaning has dulled the luster. Edge shows flattened reeding from having been in a bezel. Numerous offerings of this medal in silver and bronze formats have been presented, but this is the first appearance in gold since our sale of the Eliasberg collection (April 2005, lot 3580), an NGC EF with a few hairlines and which realized a hammer of $2,200. Quite RARE and rather important.
