Unfortunately, more concentrated inspection reveals a set of short, inconspicuous scratches that, while avoiding the designs, mar the fields immediately surround the '1' in the date. If not for these, this coin would certainly be among the most impressive extant. As such, a coin that deserves careful consideration, as far less beautiful examples without the noted flaws would likely command far greater prices in today's market.
