MADURA: Ahsan Shah, 1334-1339, AV tanka (11.00g), Hadrat Madura, AH737, G--, style similar to the gold tanka of his successor Ghiyath al-Din Damghan Shah, fabulous strike, with remarkable lengthy inscriptions: the obverse center bears the text afdal al / yasir khilafat / rabb al-'alamin / jalal al-dunya wa'l-din, surrounded by the standard mint/date formula, the reverse abu'l-du'afa / wa'l-masakin ahsan / shah al-sultan / khulidat khilafatuhu, the text revealing that Ahsan Shah was claiming the caliphate! choice EF to AU, RRR. Although unknown to Goron in the 1980s, a few specimens have appeared at auction since about 2010, mostly dated 735 or 736, plus one with a date tentatively read as 734. This appears to be the first known example dated 737.
