UMAYYAD: AE fals (2.22g), MM, DM, A-L206, kalima obverse, possibly additional legend in the margin, but off flan on this piece // governor's name, mimma amara bihi al-manâh bin marra, traces of mint & date formula around, much porosity, with the patronymic name marra clear, the interpretation of the name al-manâh tentative; unpublished and probably unique, Very Good, RRR, ex M.H. Mirza Collection. According to Baladhuri, a commander Rabid b. Marra served in Sind, and led an army deep into the west coast of India, during the time of the caliph Hisham (724-743). At least one other official of the Marra family also served in Sind. The fabric, style, porosity, and source suggests that this must be a fals of the Sind district, perhaps also of al-Mansura.
