W ajihides d’Oman. Yusuf b. Wajih, AH 314-332. Dirham AH 327, Uman (Oman).
This is a rare example of a «father and son» conjoint coinage. Between 314 and 325 h. coins were struck only in the name of the Abbasid governor Yusuf bin Wajih, and from 326 until 332 the name of his son Muhammad was added to the legends. The Omani mint was probably located in the famous port of Sohar on the Batinah coast. This was the departure and arrival point for trade between India, Iraq and the Gulf. The governors of Oman always recognised the Abbasid caliph as their overlord.
