RUSSIAN MEDALS. MEDALS of ALEXANDER II. Livonia. Pair of Medals. Silver and Bronze. 51 mm. By Wilhelm Kullrich. Imperial Livonian Communal and Economic Society. Award Medals, nd. Peruked bust of founder, Peter Heinrich v. Blankenhagen l. / Five-line legend within wreath. The silver: toned over some hairlines and scratches. The bronze: milk-chocolate patina. (2 pieces, one reverse is not illustrated) Extremely fine. Author of a prodigious amount of commemorative medals, Kullrich (1821-1887), was the chief engraver and medalist at the Berlin mint. He executed coin dies for Prussia, other German states, Romania, Brazil, Egypt and Norway; and also reorganized the mints at Bucharest and St. Petersburg. He was offered a permanent appointment in Russia, but turned it down to stay in Berlin.
