Peruked bust of founder, Peter Heinrich v. Blankenhagen l. / Five-line legend within wreath. The silver: toned over some hairlines and scratches. The bronze: milk-chocolate patina. (2 pieces, one reverse is not illustrated) Extremely fine. Author of a prodigious amount of commemorative medals, Kullrich (1821-1887), was the chief engraver and medalist at the Berlin mint. He executed coin dies for Prussia, other German states, Romania, Brazil, Egypt and Norway; and also reorganized the mints at Bucharest and St. Petersburg. He was offered a permanent appointment in Russia, but turned it down to stay in Berlin.
