South Vietnam National Bank of Viet Nam 1000 Dong ND (1955-56) Pick 4As Specimen PCGS Superb Gem New 67PPQ. One of the 20th century's most enduring designs, which happens to exist on a banknote that ultimately went unissued. The banknote process, from the design stage, through to print, all the way to delivery, can take multiple years. During the mid-1950s, The Indochina War was finally concluded, and the Geneva accords split Vietnam in two on July 21st, 1954. Chief of State Bao Dai was overthrown by his Prime Minister, Ngo Dinh Diem, on October 26, 1955. However, both Dai and Diem were largely fond of France, and were widely targeted during their tumultuous time in power. As such, this French-style note became unnecessary, and is therefore only available as a Proof or Specimen. Specifically, this watermarked variety is an overprinted and numbered Specimen. "GIAY MAU" is overprinted tastefully on both sides. All details are still clearly visible on this pack fresh and utterly spectacular example. No finer graded Specimen or Proof has been offered in public auction. Not to be missed, as this example is as rare as it is visually appealing.
